YOUNG PERSON WORK EXPERIENCE (Age 14-18 Years)

Young Person Work Experience (Ages 14–18)

Our Work Experience programme gives you the chance to explore the world of work and see what a career in our industry could look like. Over four exciting days, you’ll get hands-on experience, develop new skills, and discover how your ideas can make a real difference.

This programme is also part of a research study exploring how work experience benefits young people. Everyone who applies who meets the eligibility criteria will be included in the study and randomly selected either for a work experience placement or to join a comparison group. Both groups play an important role in helping us understand the impact of the programme, and everyone will be invited to complete short surveys. If you’re not placed this time, we still value your involvement and contribution to shaping future opportunities.

What you’ll gain

During the in-person placement, you will get hands-on experience working on real projects, build essential soft skills that help you gain and develop skills that will support your future education and employment, including:

  • Communication – expressing your ideas clearly
  • Teamwork – working with others to achieve goals
  • Creative Problem Solving – thinking of solutions in new ways
  • Self-Management – organising your tasks and time
  • Listening – understanding and valuing other perspectives

What applying means:

By submitting an application for this work experience placement, you confirm that:

  • You understand that this programme is part of a research trial, and that applying means you consent to take part in that trial.
  • You may or may not be offered a placement, depending on random allocation
  • You agree to be contacted with 2–3 short surveys during and after the trial, and you may be invited to take part in interviews. Taking part in surveys or interviews is always voluntary.
  • If you are under 16, you understand that your parent or guardian will need to provide their contact details and give separate consent before you can take part.

These consents will be clearly captured through tick boxes and (for under-16s) a parental consent form as part of the application process, please see the main work experience page to download the form (insert link )

All final results will be reported anonymously.
